HP SPECTRE X360 14 2-IN-1: DESIGN AND PORTS

Despite its functionality as a 2-in-1 with a convertible display, the HP Spectre x360 boasts a remarkably compact and lightweight design. Measuring at 12.35 x 8.68 x 0.67 inches and weighing 3.2 pounds, it’s effortlessly portable, whether you’re moving around your home or commuting.

Due to its slim profile, the available ports are somewhat limited, but you do get 2 Thunderbolt 4 ports along with a retractable USB-A port. While the longevity of the retractable mechanism remains to be seen, having the option for a full-size USB-A connection is a convenient feature. Additionally, there’s a mic/headphone jack included for added versatility.

The HP Spectre x360 14 2-in-1 is offered in Nightball black, Slate blue, and Sahara silver color options. Among these, the Slate blue model stands out to me personally, striking a balance between personality and understated elegance.

HP SPECTRE X360 14 2-IN-1: DISPLAY AND AUDIO

The 14-inch OLED display of the HP Spectre x360 14 2-in-1 presents a stunning visual experience, whether engaged in graphic design tasks using GIMP or simply browsing the internet. This panel boasts a variable refresh rate ranging from 48 to 120Hz, ensuring smooth performance while also contributing to battery efficiency.

One notable feature of the new Spectre is its 16:10 aspect ratio, offering more screen real estate compared to the standard 16:9 display. However, it’s important to temper expectations regarding brightness, as the HP Spectre x360 is rated for 500 nits of brightness when viewing HDR content, a notable difference from the 1,600 nits offered by the 14-inch MacBook Pro.

A noteworthy addition to the Spectre x360 14 2-in-1 lineup is Poly audio tuning, making these models the first consumer laptops to feature this technology. While I didn’t have the opportunity to personally test the speakers positioned on either side of the keyboard, HP assures users of exceptional voice quality and robust overall sound performance.

The HP Spectre x360 14 2-in-1 boasts a standout feature with its 9MP camera, outshining the 1080p camera found in the MacBook Pro. Even in challenging lighting conditions, the camera delivers clear images with natural skin tones, thanks to its hardware-enabled low-light adjustments.

Another impressive aspect is the webcam’s ability to keep the user’s face centered within the frame, a feature made possible by the device’s NPU. Additionally, users can effortlessly blur the background, further enhancing the overall video conferencing experience.

HP SPECTRE X360 14 2-IN-1: PERFORMANCE AND AI FEATURES

The HP Spectre x360 14 2-in-1 offers powerful performance options, featuring either an Intel Core Ultra 5 or Core Ultra 7 chip, complemented by 16GB or 32GB of RAM. Storage configurations include a 512GB NVMe SSD, 1TB, or 2TB options, with Intel Arc graphics also available.

However, the standout feature lies in the enhanced NPU within Intel’s latest chip, capable of handling various AI tasks previously managed by the CPU or GPU. For instance, I effortlessly created an image of a golden retriever skateboarding using GIMP with just a simple prompt.

Moreover, there’s a dedicated AI chip that can automatically lock the PC when you step away and awaken it upon your return. Additionally, I found the privacy alerts intriguing—notifications that appear when the Spectre x360 14 2-in-1 detects someone peering over your shoulder, ensuring your privacy remains intact.

HP SPECTRE X360 14 2-IN-1: BATTERY LIFE

The HP Spectre x360 14 2-in-1 boasts impressive battery life, with ratings of up to 13 hours for general use and up to 17 hours for video playback. However, compared to the over 17 hours we observed from the MacBook Pro 14-inch M3 during web browsing, HP might face a slight disadvantage in this aspect.

Nevertheless, the Spectre x360 14 2-in-1 offers a silver lining with its support for fast charging. You can reach a 50% charge in approximately 45 minutes, ensuring quick replenishment of battery power when needed.

Overall, the HP Spectre x360 14 2-in-1 emerges as a highly appealing and proficient system, potentially earning a spot on our best Windows 11 laptop list and our best 2-in-1 laptop guide.

I’m particularly struck by its impressive 9MP webcam, array of time-saving AI features, and the vibrant OLED display. Moreover, its lightweight design, even with a touchscreen, sets it apart, weighing less than the 14-inch MacBook Pro.

While the relatively short rated battery life and display brightness raise some concerns, we’ll reserve final judgment until we conduct thorough testing in our lab.
